The main reason behind the move is the the high cost of development in the country, as stated by 2K Games. 2K confirmed the closure with the following official statement: “We can confirm we have taken steps to begin the studio closure process for 2K Australia in order to better manage ongoing development costs while improving the working proximity of our creative teams. We are very grateful for the team’s valuable contributions to numerous 2K projects, and are working with affected staff to explore reassignment opportunities where possible.”

2K Australia was originally established in 2000 as Irrational Games, Australia, before being acquired by 2K Games in 2006. With the release of BioShock in 2007, the studio was rebranded to 2K Australia. About me: A collector, I hunt for stuff that was missed. I’m the guy who goes into a music store and asks the staff if they have some secret music cd in the backroom storage closet. My life ticks away while I watch anime, reading fictional novels or stalk Wikipedia for information completely useless to me.
