Renting and sharing are an integral part of secondary marketing in the video game industry. However, the renting scene is not very strong in the young Indian gaming community as of now. There are ongoing attempts to change the scenario and companies like ‘Play on Rent’ (POR) are leading the charge.

www.playonrent.com is a simple rent, share and buy video gaming portal with a buoyant outlook. POR has an exclusive library of the latest Xbox 360 and PS3 games, available for renting in red, yellow or green packs.

Each game is defined by a color based on its market value, popularity and release date. A Red subscription will cover you with all the games from Red, Yellow and Green packs, and same way Yellow will cover the Green pack as well. A refundable security deposit of Rs.1500 is required with a subscription. This security is refunded by fortnight of the next subscription cycle whenever the subscriber fails to re-subscribe for next month.

Subscriber also has an option of keeping the game, which they are currently playing during their active subscription (by paying for it, if he/she likes it). Each subscription has a defined price and covers up to a maximum of four games per month.  The subscriptions and their prices are:

  • Red + Yellow + Green – at Rs 2499/month
  • Yellow + Green – at Rs 1699/month
  •  Green – at Rs 899/month

A lower pack member can also convert into a higher pack member by paying the amount difference. POR is currently available for residents of Delhi and NCR only, with plans of covering the full nation soon. The games are available by Cash on Delivery.

Another feature of POR is earning while sharing. A person can share his personal game through PORs portal and gain 10, 25 and 40 earnings per day of rent (maximum of 1200 earnings per month) whenever the games go out on rent, based on the game category of Red, Yellow and Green. The earnings are credited to the person’s POR account for use on the website.

Why buy all the games you want to play, when you can TRY and perhaps KEEP them for much cheaper on PlayOnRent.

  1. Are these services renting game legal in India? All console game discs specially mention that rental and pay for play is circumvention of copy protection and is illegal.

    Can someone please advise?
