PS3_R_imageSony in its press release announced today that it has started manufacturing BluRay games in India i.e. local replication of BluRay PlayStation titles.

PS3 games in India cost Rs. 2499 and upwards. This price is still lower than the European and American pricing, where most recent games cost $60 (Rs. 3250). Even though India is on the cheaper side of the pricing trend, even Rs. 2499 is considerably high for the average Indian per capita income. High costs of original copies of game is also the reason for blatant piracy which is thriving in the country.

Sony promises that local replication will allow them to prices games lower, going as low as Rs. 999/-. Sony has also announced the first batch of low cost titles:

  • God of War Collection Volume 1
  • God of War Collection Volume 2
  • God of War 3
  • Killzone 3
  • Resistance 3
  • Motorstorm Apocalypse
  • Uncharted 2 : Amongst Thieves
  • Heavy Rain Move Edition
  • Sports Champions
  • The Fight

The list includes hit games and the Rs. 999/- deal is sweet. Sony has named their low cost range ‘PS3 ESSECNTIALS’. This is a positive development, this move comes from Sony at a time which couldn’t have been placed better. Gaming in India is on the up, and a drop in price of hit titles only makes it better. More title to included in this list soon, stay tuned.
