The Witcher 3 may not be even be 10 days old, but already many useful mods have started appearing on the Nexus website. And the mod-creation tool Redkit has still not been officially released by CD Projekt Red. Being such a popular game one could expect mods as early as we see now, what is surprising is the variety in these mods that one can see. From changing values and numbers of gold, weight and stamina to mods that visually overhaul the graphics, adding effects, skin packs and horse armour. We compile a list of the best Witcher 3 mods that we deemed fit. Here they are:

Convenience Cheats

1. Over 9000 – Weight limit mod by GiecuMan

weight for withcer 3

The Over 9000 mod allows you to change Geralt’s weight limit to a custom value of up to 9999. For some, weight limits can be a concern as the game has no central storage or bag expansions (besides the single horse saddle), and no filter inventory by weight option.

If you’re having weight issues in the Witcher 3 a few quick tips that might help:

  • Don’t keep more than 10 of any type of plant. Sell anything above.
  • Junk items can be useful for when you need something specific from dismantling. No need to horde them, hides especially are very heavy.
  • Every book or note once read can be sold.
  • Only keep the armor you want to upgrade.

2. Wealthy Vendors with Fair Sale by GiecuMan

Wealthy venders

The mod allows you to change the amount of money that vendors offer for items and greatly increases amount of money that vendors have. Works with existing save files. Takes some time to apply (around 3-7 in-game days).

A few tips:

  • Different vendors have different prices for items. Inns would give better prices for food and drinks while a smith or armorer will pay you more for armor and swords.
  • There are some traders that pay you the full price for everything, but their money restocks very slowly.

3. Tireless Steeds by FarSolar

horse speed

This mod increases Gerald’s horse’s sprinting stamina by 10 times the original amount. Know that this will effectively break horse races because you will be able to sprint through the whole race.

4. Longer Potion Durations (potions last longer) – MrRW by MrRoflWaffles

potion duration

This patch increases the potion’s durations and lowers toxicity. It will make changes to some but not all of the potions in the game.

5. XP gain multiplier by GiecuMan

xp mod

The XP gain multiplier mod allows to you change the experience gain multiplier. You can either increase or decrease the value. There is an issue with the mod, where you can’t have a file size larger than the original. So if you are planning to use decimals in the value, delete the three letters from “Quests” in the first line.

Graphics and Visuals Mods

1. Extreme Weather Conditions by KNG

This small mod for The Witcher 3 adds Extreme Weather Conditions to Novigrad, Velen and White Orchard. Expect lots of rain, fast wind, thunder and lightning. There is a frame rate drop of 2-3 frames during a storm.

2. Witcher 3 Hairworks Performance Optimization – New Options by Exerath

Nvidia hairwork fix

This mod delivers better performance while using Nvidia Hairworks. Ideal for those who want to turn on Nvidia Hairworks but their PC cannot handle it. It increases performance by reducing the AA levels on the strands of hair.

3. W3HC – Witcher 3 Hunter’s Config incl. SweetFX by MelekTaus

Hunter's Config

W3HC – Witcher 3 – Hunter’s Config is a tool for configuring/tweaking The Witcher 3. It only changes the values of 11 INI-files and the user.settings-file. So W3HC is basically a GUI that makes raw text more readable. The author has added his own SweetFX preset for slightly less saturation.

4. E3FX by Drogean

This Reshade Frameworks pack aims to make your game look as close as possible to the famous stylized and “cold” atmosphere from the Witcher 3 Screenshots in the debut trailer.

5. Fantasy- Graphics by CooliSushi

For those of you who love fantasy-like graphics, this preset does its best to add a colorful immersion to the fantasy world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
