Last week, we spoke about the unveiling of Big Ant Studios’ Cricket 14. We also shared comprehensive details and a gameplay trailer for the game. The name of the game was not final.
Today, just a day after England manage to knock off Australia and retain the Ashes trophy, Big Ant Studios has announced Don Bradman Cricket 14. This is the same ‘Cricket 14’ we were talking about, only, now with the final title. Big Ant Studios and publisher Home Entertainment Suppliers (HES) are working under a license agreement with the Bradman Foundation to deliver the game.
It is rumoured that originally, Sachin Tendulkar was approached to endorse the upcoming cricket franchise, but the deal couldn’t go through, possibly due to financial reasons.
Big Ant Studios CEO Ross Symons commenting on the PlanetCricket forums about the Sachin Tendulkar deal said “For ‘personalities’ sometimes you just know someone, or someone that knows someone, and it works out directly and they tell their agent to just do the deal. Mostly though there are agents involved from the start and it all goes through them. I have family that knows Sachin, [but I] still had to go through management though and it didn’t work out.” He later added that contact was established, but a deal couldn’t be agreed upon.
Moving on to bagging the rights for Sir Don Bradman, Sebastian Giompaolo, the MD of HES says, “It is indeed an honour to be able to bring the greatest player to a technology savvy generation of fans in what promises to be the greatest cricket game of all time. Big Ant Studios have been working hard on this title for four years and we at HES are really excited with what they have been able to achieve. It is far superior to any cricket game in the market.”
It is true, the game features deep mechanics and subtle physics. This is the first time a cricket game has been given such treatment. To read about all the features present in the game, check out our article detailing what is now called Don Bradman Cricket 14. Enjoy the Teaser Trailer below!
