Angry Birds, which started out as a casual mobile game is doing rounds in places one could only dream of. The Angry Birds art has made its way through weird places, Angry Birds boxer shorts and thongs, helloww!!!
Ever since launching as a paid app in 2009, Angry Birds has surpassed over 1.7 billion (170 crore) downloads across all its platforms and editions. Now that is a BIG number. And yet we ain’t getting enough of that stuff, we need a movie, y’know.
It has been in the news for quite a while that an Angry Birds movie ‘may be in the making’, a recent press release confirms this. Rovio, the creater of the game, has a signed a deal with Sony Pictures to bring Angry Birds to the big screen.
The work on the movie has already begun, Angry Birds The Movie will be an animated 3D feature, and will launch on July 1, 2016.
Companies from all over the world are floundering for worldwide distribution rights for the move, with Sony Pictures Entertainment getting the top of the muffin.
“Sony impressed us with their great attitude, determination, and professionalism. They convinced us that we have found the right partners and team to help us market and distribute our first motion picture,” says Rovio’s Mikael Hed.
Angry Birds has already made an appearance on the small screen with an animated TV series, called Angry Birds Toons, which racked up 150 million views just from the Angry Birds apps.
Thanks, VG247.
