College Rivals, an esports competition for college students from all over the country just wrapped up its Delhi leg. The tournament, organised by Ampverse and DMI Finance, began on August 24 in the capital city of Delhi. It will take place in major cities across India in leading colleges. The next city in the line-up is Hyderabad, followed by Bangalore, Pune and Mumbai.
The tournament witnessed a strong 15000+ registrations from students across various colleges in Delhi-NCR, including Amity University, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi), Delhi Technical University (DTU), Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology (MAIT), and Shiv Nadar University.
College Rivals features the “amped up” Gaming Truck. The esports tournament drew a daily influx of 500 to 800 on-ground visitors per day. The cumulative engagement during the tournament’s first leg is around 50 lakh with around 55 lakh video and stream views. All this in just about 10 days! Numbers like these reassure that esports is now in the mainstream for Gen Z, namely, college going students.
College Rivals held competitions for the game BGMI, Counter-Strike GO, FIFA 2023, Road to Valor and Valorant and Street Fighter V. These games cover mobile phones, consoles and PC. Influencers Scout (Tanmay Singh), Ocean Sharma, and Meowkasa (Uzma Zaki) were part of the Delhi competitions.
You can count of taurine-infused energy drink brand Red Bull to be present at most, if not all gaming and esports events. Chilled Red Bull was being distributed freely to attendees as a gaming event provides an apt space to create new customers (college students). Give them a taste, and you have a customer for life, or atleast a handful of years. You see, Red Bull is infused with taurine, a very strong stimulant, along with a lot of sugar, and we mean, A LOT. Both ingredients in combination is a perfect recipe to get a young adults hooked. The students nor the college authorities are complaining though, so all is well, I guess?
