The word was out last night and the video is out today as well. If you’re still puzzled with your portion of Tuesday, head straight to YouTube and allow yourself some over-the-top fun. Because Grand Theft Auto is back, with the very first gameplay video featuring the three protagonists –Michael, Trevor and Franklin. . Whenever I think of Rockstar, I visualise this cool game developer company who has its own style. Their absence at the E3 has ricocheted with the right results on the gameplay trailer reveal.
The voice over leading you through the video is sheer amazing, introducing the three characters one after the other, with some crazy stunts and behavioural problems. The video states that the game does take place all across the United States of America (as rumoured). It also introduces some crazy environments and landscapes that can change the course of the scene any time. There are rural towns, skyscraper filled metropolitan cities as well as the wildlife, seducing you and threatening you (Path of the Warrior reference from Far Cry 3). Is the GTAV map 5 times as huge as the huge Red Dead Redemption map? Well, that is something that only playing can convince. But it sure does look expansive.
The game says its sarcastic hello to two of the hugely awaited open map games of 2013 for sure. Its local rival Saints Row IV and the upcoming Ubisoft megaproject Watch Dogs. And even though it is too early for that battle, we know what Rockstar Games is capable of. The online mode of GTAV looks as killer as some of the games we saw at E3, like Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs and the open world racing game The Crew. With my recollections of Red Dead Redemption, I can totally guarantee that Rockstar won’t allow a deficiency in the single player story madness while still dealing with some serious stuff in the online mode. The game allows you to switch between the three protagonists at your will. Consider a brilliant Co-Op scene out there, finally someone will do justice to what FUSE tried at doing. The skyscraper heist looks as real as any action movie that relieves you on weekends. My guesses are… Can we join in and play? Can we work up and hire thugs individually? Well then, goodbye Saints Row IV.
The gun swap and the cover taking in GTAV looks just like Red Dead Redemption’s. If it is as sleek as Red Dead, then prepare to get dazzled all over again. For Red Dead was not only one of the best conceptualised games, but also offering you horde of fun with simplicity. Plus there is one epic line in the gameplay video that is still making me headbang, there will be animal encounters, hunt them or get hunted. Oooooh yeah! The richness of the Red Dead Redemption wildlife collaborated with the mind blowing wildlife in Far Cry 3; that is what GTAV is capable of bringing out. And did I miss out on the cool perks that you can do while you’re out of a mission? Tattoos and Sex Change are passé, hello Stock Market takeover and extending one’s business. And of course the biggies of any GTA title are back as well, money, chics, cars, semi-nude chics, filthy money, stolen cars, and of course the radio stations!
These are some of the high points from the gameplay trailer that hit me. Until I get a grip over my senses, here’s the gameplay trailer to explain my madness:
