The Esports Club is a Bangalore based company founded in 2019 by gaming industry veterans Vamsi Krishna, a former employee of Nvidia, Ishaan Arya and Mansoor Ahmed Noor. It is primarily an international esports entertainment company founded in India which owns, operates and partners with esports IPs. The company provides turnkey solutions to brands wanted to participate and associate with esports and gaming.
Timing was on The Esports Club’s side when Covid hit and esports saw a massive boon globally, which led to the company acquiring new customers and increasing its funnel size, primarily operating within India.
On the 2nd of February 2023, the company announced that it had officially raised $3 million (USD) in a pre-series A round to “expand its operations to The Middle East and Southeast Asia, and build a state-of-the-art esports platform.”
“We are thrilled to have secured this funding and to be expanding our operations to new regions. Esports is a rapidly growing industry, and we are excited to be at the forefront of it. We are committed to building a strong and sustainable Esports ecosystem, and this funding will allow us to do just that. We are excited to bring our competitive tournaments, events, and content to new audiences, and to help cultivate the next generation of Esports talent”
Vamsi Krishna – Founder, The Esports Club
The funding was led by KOMLAY Group and SAMBAVANATH Group. The Esports Club (TEC) will support the organization’s growth in gaming events and Esports following this infusion of capital. It also claims to launch new initiatives within the realms of its operating regions, including hiring of local broadcast talent, hosting events and developing a strong online presence.
This news, which comes a few weeks after the Government of India’s inclusion of Esports as a legit competitive sport, among other sports, reassures that gaming and esports is on a never-seen-before rise in India. The effect is now snowballing and points to a revolution of sorts for esports and gaming in the country, given the sheer increase in numbers of gamers, streamers, viewers and competitions. Indian teams are consistently making it to the big global tournaments. More and more gaming startups are receiving funding to expand their operations. Esports training facilities are also popping in the country.
One can only hope that the good times stay the way they are!
