If you’ve been sniffing around the Indian gaming community lately, of course, you must obviously be aware of the India Gaming Carnival, the first of its kind, to be held from 6 – 8th April, 2012, in Delhi-NCR.
Finally…….
Growing up a devoted gamer in India made me realize how our country just lacked in promoting gaming and organizing those mega-events, like they do in other parts of the world, considering the fact that there are so many of us gamers here. It’s really frustrating. In the US, UK, and Korea (obviously the south), they have these events with huge cash prizes and participants from all over the world. Why not India? With a sizable demographic of gamers present here, it left me wondering.
Well, not to worry anymore, WTF Eventz has come to the rescue, and has taken up the rather daunting task of organizing the India Gaming Carnival. The First. The Biggest. Yet. This puts India right in the center of the gaming map. It’s a huge event, with cash prizes up to $300,000. Now, that is a good sum. something that will surely attract the gosu/pro international teams to participate.
The India Gaming Carnival would obviously feature the competition, which includes games for all types of gamers. There are even a couple of Android and iPhone games in the lineup. Neat! It seems WTF Eventz was pretty aware that consoles still haven’t penetrated the Indian middle class the way portable gaming has.
Here is the list of games in the IGC Competition:
FPS
Battlefield 3
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
Counter Strike 1.6
REAL TIME STRATEGY
Starcraft II
DoTA: Defence of the Ancients
RACING
Forza Motorsport 4
Need For Speed : Most Wanted
FIGHTING
Street Fighter IV
Tekken 6
SPORTS
Fifa 12 (it sucks that they’ve not included Pro Evolution Soccer 2012!)
MOBILE GAMING
Fruit Ninja (Hell yeah I’m gonna be taking part in this!)
Angry Birds
MOTION GAMING
Dance Central 2
So, looks like IGC has a little something for everyone, whatever your cup of tea! Also, theres gonna be Snooker and Pool for fanatics alike. And for you gambling addicts (that includes me!), theres gonna be poker too! Boy oh boy!
And the gaming competitions aren’t even half of what is being offered at the IGC. WTF Eventz has gone the extra mile to include cosplay (for those who are new to this term, it means a fancy-dress party with people dressed up as their favorite gaming characters). It’s HUGE in Japan), product launches, and celebrity visits.
It will be very interesting to observe the overall response to this event. The turnout. the mood in general. The response will help us clarify where gaming really stands in India currently. We still believe gaming is a majorly unexplored segment, with only the metro population having anything to do with it. It’s a big number, but still a minute one when compared to the actual scope in the country. India is also opening up some laws to allow foreign game developers to set up bases in India. Only with the response at IGC can we really tell whether they are on the right track or not.
So, anyway, what are you waiting for? Get yourselves registered at the official website over here, and BE THERE. The iLLGaming team will be giving you full-fledged coverage of the event! If you spot us, head over to say hi! We take pleasure in meeting our loyal readers!
Is….that you? Eg.universe?
