It is human nature to work better if there’s a whiplash waiting for them to make a mistake. Temple Run adopts the same formula and places flesh chomping monsters behind your arse and asks you to run.
In this game from the studio of Imangi, all one has to do is run. Run for the fear of monsters, run for the multiplier which can reach up to 46, run for collecting coins, run for powering up and beating your friends to the ever evading 10 million mark.
Going into a bit detail, the only new element the game offers other than its stiff competition is the 3D running angle. There were a zillion never ending games before Temple Run which involved dodging obstacles and cheating paths to obtain a high score; for e.g. Prison Run; but, all were in 2D. They were all momentarily fun. Then came Imangi with a tweaked up concept and gave us Temple Run. The story says that you are stealing an idle from a sacred temple and once you are done, there are big black creatures chasing you. Somehow, I am reminded of Indiana Jones after playing this.
The game has certain features not easily understood by a noob, they go as-
*POWERUPS – Elements you will find along the run to help you survive and obtain a high score.
1. Mega Coin – a golden coin will appear on the screen. This will boost your coin bonus by a small amount. Should be upgraded fourth.
2. Coin Magnet – A giant horse shoe magnet will appear on the screen. This will basically absorb all the coins you pass. This should be upgraded second.
3. Invisibility – A blue ghostish symbol will appear on the screen. This power up makes you invulnerable to all the obstacles, all you got to do is turn and jump. Should be
upgraded third.
4. Boost – A red symbol of a running man will appear. As the name suggests, it will give you a boost up to a certain amount. During this all one needs to do is tilt left and right for the coins. Should be upgraded fifth.
5. Coin Value – A tri-colour symbol of red, blue and yellow will appear. Yellow represents single value coins, red represents double and blue triple. This should be upgraded first.
* UTILITIES – Items for single use which may help one survive and obtain a high score. Have to be bought before usage.
1. Resurrect – Activated by double tapping anywhere on the screen. Lasts for 30 seconds. A player will not die if this utility is activated.
2. Mini Boost(1000m) and Mega Boost (2500m) – Appears in the beginning of the run. May be used to cover the numeric distance mentioned above. Player usage similar to Boost on powerups.
* Lastly you have the unlockables containing 6 characters and 3 wallpapers. All should be unlocked when the Powerups are fully upgraded.
How to ace Temple Run?
Like said above just run by jumping and dodging obstacles, be cautious when turning, as some turns have a sudden jump. Scared! Don’t be. It’s very easy, you don’t need a cheat code to stay alive, just play the game at least 500-750 times ;D , then your power ups will be maxed out, the multiplier will be around 40X and whatever you earn will extra coins. Buy a lot of Resurrection power. It lasts for 30 seconds, activate it and try not to die in those 30 seconds and it will reappear with a ‘TING’ sound after 15 seconds. Even if you die in those 30 seconds, you’ll be brought back from the dead. Hence, ensuring a free run to the podium.
Illgaming was able to achieve a high score of 10 million after 776 runs. LOL! I am sure you can do better.
A new version of Temple Run is available in the app store as Temple Run: Brave, in which there’s not much difference from the original. The powerups and gameplay remains the same with a couple of additions like the shooting arrows in between and their upgrade in the powerups section, along with a total overhaul of graphics with a bear chasing a girl in a dense jungle. It is a similar game with a raised level of difficulty because of the new graphics. Should be given a try, but only after mastering Temple Run.
The ILL factor -Beautifully rendered 3D graphics and low system requirements along with attractive elements as one progresses makes this game a must play. Plus, there is always a competition with friends for the High Score.
