Intel India along with UniverCell, a chain of Mobile retail stores, have launched the Univercell Tablet Gaming Championship powered by Intel on July 10, 2014. The championship will be held in all the 25 participating UniverCell SYNC outlets in Mumbai and Bengaluru. It will kick off on July 14 and will be held for the next two weeks.

The championship considers the high scores in two tablet games, namely Asphalt 8 Airborne and FIFA 14, played on Intel powered tablets in special Game zones in these stores. Top scorers on each day across all the stores will get to take home a co-branded t-shirt, while the grand prize is an Intel powered tablet for two winners from each metro. UniverCell’s site has more detailed Rules and Regulations.

Speaking at the event, UniverCell’s founder, Mr. D. Satish Babu, was keen to emphasise the customer centric approach of their company and how each UniverCell SYNC outlet is designed to allow customers to get a hands on experience with the devices. This gaming initiative is to promote tablets as a gaming device to customers and to showcase the superiority of Intel powered tablets for the same.

Intel India’s Marketing Director, Mr. Sandeep Aurora, also spoke at the event where he gave some statistics to show the growth potential of the tablet segment in the Indian market. He also demonstrated how Intel’s offerings are more efficient in their computing and can be faster than competing processors despite having fewer cores. An interesting statistic shared by him was that the most popular tablet screen size in the nation is 7”.

The tablets we got to try in the Game Zone were Asus’s MemoPad and FonePad and Dell’s Venue.
