To fill up the void left long after the conclusion of PUBG, as well as the recent blow out to BGMI gaming in India, a Pune-based company called SuperGaming has come up with an indigenous battle royale game called Indus. It’s soon to be released on mobile, PC and consoles. In line with our Independence day celebration, the game’s trailer got featured on New York’s Time Square. It’s really not a big deal, but hey, it happened so we mentioned it. We’d love it more if it were placed in a huge billboard in Delhi’s Connaught Place rather than New York’s Times Square.
With a lack of gaming infrastructure in India currently, such developments show a ray of hope for the gaming future as also discussed at the India Gaming Conclave 2022. The potential for Battle Royale games is huge in India as there are over 350 million gamers in India with a billion-dollar market in the country. Along with this, there is an annual increase in in-app purchases of about 40% CAGR for mobile shooting games.
SuperGaming is run by a team of 5 members who have made investments in building their own gaming engine to run hyperscale, real-time multiplayer games. The motive behind bringing this game into the picture, according to its developers, is to amplify the Indian presence on the global map from the gaming perspective. The game promises to offer a bold and different experience to gamers the world over.
For all those waiting eagerly to play the game, the company has announced that there will pre-registrations starting for Indus from the latter part this year and it will be available for Apple and Android mobile devices.
Initial try-out of the game
The company believes in incorporating the views of the community to be of high value so they organized a setup in their Pune studio. Here, they organized a community playtest which included content creators, esports pros and players that helped in strengthening many aspects of Indus including the design plans. Most of these players belonged to the age bracket of 25 years and the entries showed a high interest to play the game both from North and South India.
“Indus is at a stage where within the development team, we are able to play it in-house regularly,” says SuperGaming co-founder and CEO Roby John.
The company terms Indus to be the first game that has been designed keeping the Indian theme in center. Indus’s theme is based on Indo-futurism that has been lauded by about 80% of the community.
Everything looks positive given the hard-wired testing being done rigorously for the game. If everything goes according to the claims made by the company, this may turn out to be the cornerstone in the Indian gaming spectrum to resuscitate its global presence. It’s not like this will be the pioneering battle royale mobile game that’s made in India. We have several of them like Swag Shooter, ScarFall, Silly Royale, MaskGun, of which the latter two are developed by SuperGaming. They have been able to do well with it with millions of players crossed since the inception, leaving high hopes for Indus as well.
