It was great when Microsoft released the Xbox 360 controller for Windows. Till date, there are seldom any controllers available for the PC that can match the performance of the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows. Barring a design flaw, the controller worked great with all supported games and was the most comfortable, suitable for long gaming sessions.

Microsoft hinted at Windows support for the Xbox One controller earlier, but that was about it. Things are more concrete now, as this NeoGAF thread points out. Xbox Live director of programming Larry Hryb, under the username Major Nelson replied to a query on the availability Xbox One controller support for Windows as “Soon, Very Soon.” That is all what was said. Thanks Polygon for tipping us of.

GameSpot reports that Microsoft last year claimed that porting the Xbox One controller to Windows was not an easy job, as assumed by onlookers. “New wireless protocol, combined with the ability to work in ‘wired’ mode, and the addition of features like Impulse triggers, means that new software has to be written and optimized for the PC. There is also some work that we need to do to make sure that existing PC games that support the Xbox 360 controller, will work with the Xbox One controller. While it seems trivial, it’s actually quite a bit of dedicated work for all that to be seamless for the user.”

Well, I would be the first one to get the Xbox One controller for Windows once it is made official. I know the Xbox 360 controller’s major design flaw was the RB and LB buttons, that die after heavy usage. There is a fix for that, but the results are not all that successful. This is the reason why I own four Xbox 360 controllers. I’d still buy that controller though, as it is the best out there for the PC. The Logitech Rumble pad is uncomfortable, the Saitek’s don’t have good support. So here’s hoping to a timely Xbox One controller for Windows!
