Real Steel World Robot Boxing is a sports game from Reliance Games, which tries to potray the boxing theme with robots as your boxers. The game involves a whole lot of strategy as to how you want your robot to play – weapons, special powers, defence, and so on. Real Steel WRB is a robot game, nothing brand new in that, but takes a new route with some of its creativity. Let’s take a look at the game then.

Starting with the game’s gameplay, it is pretty much all about fighting robots with your own and that’s fun, isn’t it? You get to choose from a list of robots depending on your level. Starting with the basic one, you have to face fiv robots in a level, and in between, you get upgrade your player’s defences, powers, special abilities like getting ten extra seconds in the match. Your main objective is to dethrone Zeus, who comes after you are done fighting several robots. Your main power is to basically get your super move on the opponent, and try and protect your robot from the opponent’s super move as much as possible. You are required to tap as many times as you can in order to get more out of your super move and defense when facing your opponent’s. If you win, you obviously get some rewards and then move to face the next opponent.

As far as controls go. You are given on-screen control pads – left, right, up, and down – and defense, hit, punch, and super move which comes once in a while. While these controls aren’t adequate, I found them to be not very reliable. The controls were noticeably less responsive as you would expect from a fighting game. You would have to apply more key stokes for accomplishing your moves. What’s nice is that you’re shown when a player has counter-attacked, when blocked, and so on. Neat for such a game.

Graphics of the game are much improved from what we have seen from the developers in the past. There are a few different scenes for fights, and they appear very nice. You get a good feel as soon as you start with the game, that the game’s appearance isn’t the to disappoint. Robots look heavy, some even have shiny metal bodies, and don’t appear overly-done. Crowd surrounding, fights, cages – all look very polished and are the best part of this game.

Sounds in the game are also pretty decent, but nothing extraordinary. You get to hear the wild, high roars you expect from a game involving robots. Punching, counter-attacking sounds are probably the best for this game. They go nicely with the theme and match the game’s appearance. Going back into rounds, checking your garage, powers, buying anything — audio seems to be just done right.

The game does have multiplayer option, but right now there’s no option to play online. You can only play the game with another person via WiFi, which is a letdown. The game is pretty smooth, and doesn’t lag or stutter in between matches or anywhere else. It’s particularly noticeable the developers providing equally good graphics, sounds and performance when surfing through players, rewards, etc. Just as smooth as fights.

Overall, this is a really good game from Reliance, especially with its graphics. They could really do with adding proper multiplayer option as well working a bit on the responsiveness on the game’s controls. You can download this free game for iOS (346 MB) as well as Android (323 MB).
