Ansh Patel says:
The strategy genre has always had a very “exclusive club” feel to it. RTS and MOBAs may have given it a popular edge, but turn-based has retained a niche attitude. Firaxis’ reboot of the classic XCOM series was a brilliant re-imagining, providing stunning graphical polish and accessibility rare to games from this genre while maintaining its depth in its dual pillars of tactical squad-based combat and base-management. With features like the rogue-like “Ironman Mode” and an intense multiplayer, it is turn-based strategy’s most successful attempt at winning over the mainstream while still pleasing veterans with its depth.
Rishi Alwani says:
Dear Firaxis, the drug dealers called. They want to be reimbursed for lost profits since every junkie (of strategy games or otherwise) has spent their dough and an absurd amount of time playing what could be best defined as digital cocaine. It might be a reboot, but that doesn’t stop it from being one of the most addictive games of this generation. Anyone else think it should be renamed to XCRACK: IT’S ALREADY 4AM?
Sahil Arora says:
This game makes you attain high levels of adrenaline when you complete your turn and wait for the events to unfold. The sheer tension and anticipation just to see whether you got your shot right make XCOM: Enemy Unknown good enough to recommend on our 2012 Game of the Year list.
