A: So, its finally here.
B: What is, if I might ask?
A: The PS4
Okay, my bad. A rather inappropriate time to be trolling. But its true. Sony has officially given key pointers for the PlayStation 4’s launch in India, at a press conference held today . Some of it is good news and some of it is bad.
The PS4 will launch on the 6th of January, 2014 and will be priced at Rs 39,990. Speculations stated that the PS4 would be priced at somewhere around Rs 45,000 in India, and Sony made sure that they do not surpass the Rs 40k price tag. That’s the least of what we were expecting, so Sony gets a nod here.
There will be 11 launch titles available in retail, which will include Call of Duty: Ghosts, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Need for Speed: Rivals and NBA 2K14.
The bad news:
This PS4 comes bundled with only a single DualShock 4 controller. A new one will set you back Rs. 4,990. The doesn’t change the fact the PS4 controller is absolutely gorgeous and works great. Here’s why. The PS4 camera is also available separately for Rs. 4,990. So means if you want to own two controllers and the camera, you’ll end up spending Rs. 50,000 total.
Not to mention that games for the PS4 cost a bomb. Most major titles costs Rs. 3,000 and above. Need for Speed: Rivals, and FIFA 14 cost an exorbitant Rs. 4,499 each. For a full list of available games and their price, click here.
Also, Sony expects the PS4 to sell out in the country within a week. Sony recently surpassed sales of 2.1 million (21 lakh) PS4 consoles worldwide.
There is still no information about the Xbox One’s launch in India. Now that Sony has come clean, Microsoft may try to catch up. We would still recommend the PS4 over the Xbox One. If you want to know how they stack-up against each other, click here.
