BOULT BassBox X60 Speaker + Soundbar Review

Introduction

BOULT is an Indian brand known for offering cost-effective mass market audio gear and electronics. BOULT is known for assembling its products in India itself, contrary to the general practice where most brands simply import the product from China, package it in India and label the product as “Made in India”. We felt that was a point to highlight, and so we did. Couple of months back we reviewed the BOULT Astra Neo TWS headset, which we found out to be quite the product considering its very approachable price. The Astra Neo earphones were a winner. Today, we have BOULT’s BassBox X60 speaker set. Will it impress up like the Astra Neo did? Read on to find out.

Design and Build Quality

The Boult BassBox X60 features a streamlined design and is constructed from high-quality plastic with a matte finish, reducing fingerprint smudges and complements most home decor. The woofer’s design complements the soundbar with a front-firing driver. While the plastic is not the softest to the touch, nor is it overly hard. It can withstand minors bumps and drops without breaking down.

The BOULT BassBox X60 features a sleek, modern design that can seamlessly integrate into any home setup. With a minimalistic aesthetic, it boasts a sturdy build that feels durable without being overly bulky. The woofer complements the soundbar nicely, adding a touch of elegance with its contemporary finish. 

On the soundbar, behind the grill is an LED display that shows you the current mode the speaker is operating in. It is a basic screen setup, one that is seen in many inexpensive speakers.

The remote build quality is quite generic. Its buttons are not the most tactile out there, but they will get the job done. The keys are clearly marked with their assigned functions. The remote is well-designed, providing easy access to various sound modes and volume adjustments. 

Connectivity

The BOULT BassBox X60 offers versatile connectivity options, including Bluetooth 5.4, HD(ARC), AUX, and USB ports. This flexibility allows users to connect a variety of devices, like TVs, smartphones, and laptops, ensuring a hassle-free setup. The soundbar features intuitive controls, both on the unit and via a remote control, making it user-friendly. The plethora of connectivity options in the BassBox X60 is its strongest point. It can work with any source you throw at it.

Bluetooth 5.4 means the speaker supports quick pairing, a slightly higher range of operation and a slightly higher sampling rate.

If you’re looking for audiophile ports, like an SPDIF slot, an optical slot or balanced inputs, look elsewhere. We doubt that buyers of this speaker will be needing any of these ports though.

There are also various sound modes that can be selected via the remote or the speaker controls, namely Movies, Musics and News.

Sound Quality

We often start our soundbar tests with music, as this is usually a great way of digging into the core sound quality. The BOULT Bassbox X60 is a 2.1-channel soundbar system offers decent audio performance for its price, particularly excelling in bass output due to its dedicated subwoofer. The Bassbox X60’s subwoofer enhances low frequencies, giving it a distinct advantage for bass-heavy music genres and action-packed movie soundtracks. Its 2 full range “BoomX” drivers work alongside the subwoofer to create a punchy bass response that can fill small to medium rooms effectively. These drivers work with a dedicated 32-bit core processor, which supports 48 Hz Hi-Res audio playbacks. It adds depth to lower frequencies, allowing bass tones to resonate. The 32-bit core processor also manages audio processing efficiently, reducing distortion at high volumes—a common issue in budget soundbars.

Vocals can be slightly recessed in certain settings, so it may not be ideal for highly vocal-centric content without adjusting the equalizer settings. The Movie and News modes, however, help boost clarity for dialogue, making the system more versatile for watching TV and films. The combination of its virtual 3D soundstage and pure stereo channel separation provides an elevated audio experience that’s ideal for casual home theater use, creating a more engaging atmosphere for films, games, and music.

This is typical a budget soundbar, where the focus is often on enhancing bass to create a “cinema-like” effect. Although it’s not a true surround sound system, this feature creates a reasonable approximation of a wider soundstage, which is impressive at its price point. For audiophiles or those with larger spaces, the soundbar’s central-focused soundstage and emphasis on bass might feel limiting. At its price point, it’s a solid choice for an enhanced home audio experience, particularly for bass enthusiasts.

BOULT brings this model as a cost-effective solution for users who want improved sound for movies, music, and casual gaming without a high price tag. The soundbar provides a fairly well-rounded audio experience, with clear mids and highs, while the dedicated woofer delivers deep, resonant bass that elevates music and movie audio. The bass response from the woofer is particularly noteworthy it adds depth without overwhelming the overall sound profile.

Summary

The BOULT Bassbox X60 offers good value with its strong bass, sleek design, and versatile connectivity. It’s a solid entry-level soundbar setup for movies and music. While it doesn’t match the clarity and features of high-end models, it delivers a satisfying audio experience for the price. The speaker has an original price tag of ₹9,999. At that price, the speaker is nowhere close to being a worthy offering. However, the BOULT BassBox X60 can you found on FlipKart for ₹3,999, and at certain offline outlets, you can even negotiate a better price than that. At this price mark, we would say that the BassBox X60 is a solid buy.
