ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has launched ROG Academy, a year long program meant to train aspiring gamers into world class e-sports players. Think of it like a university course for gamers looking at competitive e-sports as a career choice. The only difference being that you don’t need to pay for the course. You’ll need to go through a screening process to be shortlisted.

ASUS ROG Academy

ASUS ROG Academy is India’s first virtual academy program for gamers. ASUS will identify PC gamers through a screening process and provide them a platform to sharpen and enhance their skill. That means preparing them for competitive e-sport tournaments both in India and globally. ASUS ROG will also provide tournament-ready gaming equipment, along with professional mentorship through this initiative.

Curriculum and Duration

The duration of the program is twelve months, divided into four quarterly sessions. The shortlisted team and players will go through an extensive selection process divided into phases. After the selection process, the 6 selected player will become a part of a 3-month session for the first quarter. This first session will include activities such as individual skill training, mentorship, communication and high-level competitive training.

The first session will involve Counter Strike: Global Offensive as the official title. The panelists will consist of representatives from ASUS ROG, partners and CS:GO pros. ASUS ROG will provide the team with an ex-gratia to the tune of ₹1,00,000 to all the final 6 players on completion of their 3-month training successfully. The players will also receive a monetary compensation of ₹15,000 as stipend as well as a bonus on monthly basis during training.

The count of online gamers in India grew by 31% in 2019 and reached approximately 365 million; is expected to reach 440 million by 2022 as per a FICCI- EY report on media and entertainment industry. Owing to the pandemic, we are witnessing a permanent shift in content consumption patterns globally and increased digital acceleration. With an increase in E-sports gamers during the pandemic, ASUS has strengthened its commitment towards investing in the future of gaming industry in India. Only gamers aged above 16 years can apply. There is no upper limit of age, meaning 40-something gamers can apply too. Gamers aged between 16 to 18 will need a consent letter from their parents to participate in the program. Registrations will take place from the 1st Feb to 10th Feb, 2021.
