India’s eFootball sensation

Hemanth Kommu, India’s eFootball sensation, is set to represent the country at the renowned Global Esports Games 2023 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, following an impressive run in the Asian Qualifiers. Kommu, also known in the gaming community as ‘peshemak7,’ will begin his tournament trip against Uruguay, with the goal of bringing home a medal for India on the global stage.

Kommu will compete in Group D for the first stage against the best eFootball opponents from Brazil, Iran, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Sri Lanka, and Uruguay. The group stage matches, which will take place on December 13, will be played in a Round Robin Best-of-3 style, with 28 players divided into four groups of seven. Each group’s top three players will proceed to the Round of 16 playoffs. In addition, the fourth-placed player from each group in Stage 1 will compete for a single position in the final stage, which will use a Single Elimination Best-of-3 format.

“I am excited to take on some of the leading eFootball athletes of the world once again. The competition going to be intense, but I am ready to give it my all. My game plan will revolve around being smart and adaptable but most importantly keeping my cool under pressure. Since every opponent has their own style of gameplay, I have formulated multiple tactics and strategies based on how things go. I want to extend my gratitude to ESFI for backing me and I will do my best to make India proud by hopefully securing a medal.”

Kommu was able to clinch his place after winning the Esports Federation of India (ESFI) National Esports Championships 2023 earlier this year.

Mr. Lokesh Suji, Director of Esports Federation of India (ESFI) and Vice-President of Asian Esports Federation, expressed confidence in Hemanth’s abilities, stating, “As a key figure in the eFootball 2023 scene, Hemanth has consistently delivered remarkable performances. The ESFI is proud to support him, and we wish him the very best. We look forward to seeing India’s flag rise high not only in Riyadh but in the global Esports arena.”
