The Serve Stat Dilemma: Should I choose a card that gives me high Serve Stats

Balancing stats is a key component to creating a winning player. It is always a dilemma to choose the right cards with the stats for your player. If you ignore certain stats they will hurt your win rate. One such stat is Serve. Choosing a card with high Serve stats has its benefits, but then you sacrifice other key stats, like Volley, Stamina. The Jolly Roger card is one such card. It gives you insane serve stats, that can make your Serve reach in the 30s and 40s, and maybe even 50s.

On the other hand, a card like The Macaw, gives you decent serve stats and better Volley stats. The Rocket gives you no serve stats, only Agility and Volley.

If you want high shot stats (Forehand, Backhand, Volley) and high fitness stats (Stamina, Agility), you will have to sacrifice on Serve stats. Just notice the players in the game, most of them with high serve stats have average fitness stats.

When Should I use High Serve Stats

Only when you have really weak shot and fitness stats, then it becomes advisable to use high Serve stats because the strategy is to win the point on the strong Serve and follow-up shot, and not take the game ahead from there. In this case, provide a great service that is difficult for the opponent to pick up. You don’t need much Stamina or Agility because the opponent won’t give you a strong response to the serve. This strategy is very risky but can be used if you just don’t have cards that give you high shot and fitness stats. This is the only case in which we advise you to use High Serve Stats.

Getting away with Low Serve Stats

During most the matches in Tour 3, 4, 5 and 6, you will find atleast 90% players with high serve stats (between 30 and 50). The key to beating Tennis Clash is doing what the other players are not doing. These players have high serve stats which leaves many voids in their character. Many of such characters have average Agility (20 – 30) and below average Stamina (15 – 25). This makes their game easily exploitable to shots across the court. Playing with Agility below 30 will make it really difficult to pick strong shots across the court. One rally of 4-5 shots and they’ll be losing their Stamina.

Thus, do not go for high Serve stats just to sacrifice your other stats, else you can be easily exploited. If we look at the Serve stat independently, it is only used for half the points (because your opponent is serving half the times), and that too, just during the beginning of the point. This reduces the weightage Service holds, and that is why your character should focus on other stats, which hold more importance as they are taken into play for the entire match . It is possible to win the match with low serve stats (between 10 and 20). We will explain how. We do recommend to keep you serve stat higher than 10, as this strategy won’t work otherwise.

How to Serve with Serve stat below 20

This serve trick I learnt has increased my win-rate by almost 10%, and now I am playing steadily in Tour 6 and growing in my league rank.

The most common mistake most players with serve stat below 20 make is that they try to go for the strong serve. Well, your intention to deliver a good service is correct, but it won’t make you win the match. Serving a power serve with stat below 20 means the serve just won’t be that powerful to trouble your opponent, and he/she uses the momentum of the serve to give a blasting reply to your serve, which is difficult to pick up. You’ve been there many times. And you end up either hitting the ball out of bounds or you hit a weak lofty shot that can be further exploited with a power shot by the opponent. Game over, you lose!

Well, let us change that for you.

The trick to serve with a serve stat below 20 is, serve super accurate and super slow, basically, a sniper serve. How do we do this? When sliding your finger to serve, move your finger really slow, compared to the fast swipe you do normally. The slower you move your finger, the more accurate the serve will be (indicated by a smaller circle). Think of it like guiding exactly where the ball will bounce rather than hitting it powerfully. Ideally, you should aim for a bounce circle (those circles that indicate where the ball will bounce) that is the size of a small dot. Your serve will also have more flight to it. You should be aiming for really small circles when you serve. This is what we like to call “The Sniper Serve”.

What The Sniper Serve Does

The Sniper Serve denies your opponent the momentum to execute a powerful shot, so they will end up giving a weak or medium shot in return, to which you can respond with much ease and exploit your opponents weak agility and stamina. This strategy also works with opponents who have high Agility in the range of 30 to 40 (and above).

Also, since your serve stats are low, means you have reasonable Agility and Shot stats. This means, when you opponent gives a weak response to your sniper serve, you can easily reach the ball and give a winning reply shot.

Honestly, ever since I learnt this trick, I have been winning most of the points when I’m serving. This wasn’t the case before, where it was almost guaranteed that I will lose the point where I’m serving because my serve stats were too low (below 20). But this is not true, and this can be overcome using The Sniper Serve.

Playing Against High Serve Stats

If you are a player with high serve stats, you will by default find it difficult to pick up strong serves because remember, to keep the high serve stat you have sacrificed your Stamina, Agility and other stats. This is what 90% of the players do.

Again, the key beating Tennis Clash is doing what others ARE NOT doing.

If you have weak serve stats, then you can surely maintain high fitness and shot stats. And thus, it will be easier to pick up really strong serves; even from characters who have serve stats between 40 and 60, and give strong counter shots.

The strategy to pick up strong serves is methodical. The opponents usually try to serve on your weak hand. But since you’re good on Agility, it will be challenging for them to land a service on your weak side. The first serve should always be received with your character not moving from their initial position. The starting position of receiving a serve can pick up 9 out of 10 strong serves. By not moving, you will gauge the serving tendencies of your opponent.

The other serves can be picked up, but with a little more care and intuition. Look at the opponent when they’re about to hit the serve, their character will always look in the direction in which they will be delivering the serve. As soon as they hit the ball, move in that direction.

Another common mistake most players make is they move their character behind the baseline to receive a powerful serve. This can be exploited easily by a strong server, by serving to the sides. How many times have you been aced just because you moved your character behind the baseline? If you are sure that the opponent is going to serve powerful and towards the baseline, then sure, move your character back. But, the baseline is always the most safe place to receive a wide variety of serves. It will take a really skillful server with really high states to land an ace if you’re standing at your starting position.
