Gaming Tournament in India

ESL (Esports League), India’s most recognizable esports yearly tournament is back with its 5th edition, the ESL India Premiership 2020. The announcement was made on 21st May, and registrations are now open.

Organised by NODWIN gaming, the fifth edition of ESL Premiership has evolved its structure will feature new games. Structural changes come in the form of addition of playoffs in between sub-leagues and seeding cups for the new games. The Challengers Cup has been excluded for this edition.

Free Registration to ESL Premiership

Registration to the tournament is free of cost and requires an ESP Play account. Interested players can register on this link. Gamers above 16 can register for PUBG Mobile and CS:GO while the age limit for registration of Clash of Clans and FIFA 20 is 13 years and above.

The online phase of the tournament will have two sub leagues – Starter Cups and Master’s League. The broadcast of Master League will begin on 1st of June.


PUBG Mobile and Clash of Clans to feature in ESL Premiership 2020

New games have been added to the ESL Premiership, namely PUBG Mobile, FIFA 20 and Clash of Clans. Popular first-person shooter game Counter Strike: Global Offense has been retained.

The addition of PUBG Mobile and CoC will bring ESL to the mobile gaming masses, as both the games is widely popular among the youth of the country. There is the scope of ESL being a mass watched event simply because of the addition of these mass-played games. The inclusion of FIFA 20 also widens the reach of ESL Premiership. This is the first time a console game is being added to ESL, which in the past primarily focused on PC games.

Betting big on gaming and esports in India

ESL Premiership 2020 is touted to further esports and competitive gaming as a legit career path for serious gamers in India. Not just that, but because of social distancing being the new norm and traditional sports losing their live games played the stadiums in front of spectators, there is a huge potential for esports to get the boost that it needs. ESL has also been trying to formalise esports in the country through its tournaments. ESL Premiership 2020, with its inclusion of mass-played games will further expand its horizons in India. It will be interesting to see the response to this tournament.

Sidharth Kedia, Group CEO of NODWIN Gaming claims that ESL Premiership will be broadcast live on major OTT platforms like Disney+ Hotstar. This will further give esports in the country a boost, especially with online spectators involved. This is something that the country has never witnessed on a large scale. This time things are different, the right ingredients are present to make esports blow up.
