First, AMD redeemed itself in consumer grade processors with its Ryzen 5 and 7 series. Then, AMD translated that success to consumer laptops with its Ryzen Mobile 4000 series. Just a few days ago, the company is launching its range of commercial processors from the same family, the Ryzen 4000 “Pro”. This new series of processors are designed for medical, educational and commercial ventricles. The new AMD processors have up to eight Zen 2 cores and Vega 7 compute graphics. They are built using the latest TSMC 7nm process node technology.

These new CPUs are meant for Ultra-Thin Business notebooks. They are touted to give up to 20+ hours of battery life, owing to improved power efficiency, better idle detection to get idle components to low power states fast. The penalty incurred during power state transations has also been reduced.

The AMD Ryzen Pro 4000 series now has 2 variants, the previously launched “U” and the just launched “Pro”, the later meant for the premium business segment. The Pro series will feature 3 variants, mentioned below.

[viii] Max boost for AMD Ryzen Processors is the maximum frequency achievable by a single core on the processor running a bursty single-threaded workload. Max boost will vary based on several factors, including, but not limited to: thermal paste; system cooling; motherboard design and BIOS; the latest AMD chipset driver; and the latest OS updates. GD-150

[ix] Base frequency is the approximate processor clock speed of a typical workload running at the processor’s standard TDP. GD-166.

Lenovo and HP have already announced laptops that will run the AMD Ryzen 4000 Pro CPUs.

These machines will be available shortly, depending on the region. Expect other laptop manufacturers to jump on the Ryzen 4000 Pro wagon soon too.
