If Hollywood can mindlessly release branded video games for almost every sci-fi graphical movie, so can Bollywood. To say the least, this has become a trend for big blockbuster movies.
Of course, Shah Rukh Khan loves video games. He’s reiterated that point one time too many. His last blockbuster, Ra-One was accompanied by a PlayStation and Android game itself. Although the game was broken, buggy and utterly useless, it did top the mobile download charts for quite some time. Well, it has Shah Rukh Khan, what d’you expect?
UTV Motion Pictures and Red Chillies Entertainment has announced the launch of the official mobile game based on the upcoming movie ‘Chennai Express’ starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. iLLGaming was an attendee at the launch event, which saw SRK and director Rohit Shetty show off their gaming skills.
The game, title Chennai Express: Escape from Rameshwaram, is developed by Disney UTV and will feature on Java, Android and iOS smartphones. The game is a free running arcade game where the player takes the role of Rahul, Shah Rukh Khan’s movie character. The objective is to cover the highest distance possible. The player has to hustle his way through the town of Rameshwaram dodging obstacles such as trucks, buses, cars, coconut carts (this is Chennai!) and manholes.
There will be two versions of the game. The Java version will be in 2D, while the Android and iOS version will be in 3D. Check out the video below to see how the game looks for both the versions. Is it just me, or does the 3D version look like a Subway Surfers knock off? Typical knock off Bollywood, I say!

You also get to unlock Deepika Padukone’s avatar after completing certain in-game objectives.
Commenting on the launch of the Shah Rukh Khan, said, “To capture a movie in a game format is one of the most difficult and creatively challenging things to do. The movie has a vision and a theme, which a game needs to carry forward and keep the gamer engrossed in. The Chennai Express game captures the theme, the graphics and the mood of the movie brilliantly. I am glad we have brought a game on table that people will find engrossing and easy to be a part of. I had a lot of fun being a part of the process of making this game. Hopefully the avid gamers will find this one as much fun as I did.”
Director Rohit Shetty also had a thing to add: “Innovations are the need of the hour these days. And games have become a serious business. I am glad we have been able to make Chennai Express a part of the gaming world. Hope everyone enjoys it!”
