olympics esports week 2023

Esports making a big entry in the Olympic world

It has been officially announced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that the first-ever Olympic Esports Week will take place in Singapore from June 22nd to the 25th, 2023.

It is a proud moment for the esports fans because it shows the Olympic Movement is serious about fostering the growth of esports and actively engaging with competitive gamers.

Showcasing upcoming talent at Olympic Esports Week

The Olympic Esports Week is a four-day festival hosted by the Singapore National Olympic Committee (SNOC), Sport Singapore, and the Ministry of Culture, Community, and Youth to highlight the finest of virtual sports (hybrid physical and simulated sports).

Olympic Esports Series, a global virtual and simulated sports competition created in conjunction with the International Federations (IFs) that builds on the accomplishments of last year’s Olympic Virtual Series, will hold its first in-person live finals throughout the week. More than 250,000 people from over a hundred different countries took part in the 2021 series’ simulated and virtual sporting events, which included baseball, motorsport, cycling, rowing, and sailing.

“The first Olympic Esports Week marks an important milestone in our desire to assist the expansion of virtual sports within the Olympic Movement.” With the first-ever live finals for our virtual sports competition, we see a chance to work more closely with esports players and to expand the scope of possibilities for both players and fans. We are thrilled to be collaborating with Singapore, which has a long history of fostering new ideas within the Olympic Movement and hosted the first-ever Youth Olympic Games in 2010.”

Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee
